Taking Action: Raising Money to Protect the Rainforest!

Year 5 at St Lawrence Primary School have made an incredible start to their Agents of Change class project, and it’s already creating a real buzz across the school. Their mission is bold, meaningful, and full of purpose: to raise money for Rainforest Concern and help protect one of the most important ecosystems on our planet.

From the very beginning, the children showed real passion for making a difference. After learning about the importance of rainforests — from the wildlife they support to the role they play in keeping our planet healthy — Year 5 were determined to take action. They didn’t just want to learn about the issue… they wanted to do something about it.

Together, they chose to raise funds to sponsor an acre (or more!) of rainforest, helping to protect land from deforestation and preserve habitats for countless species. This is real-world impact led by young people who understand that their voices and actions matter.

What makes this project so inspiring is the way the children have approached it as true Agents of Change. They are not just thinking locally — they are thinking globally. They are learning that their efforts in a classroom in Essex can reach across the world and help protect places thousands of miles away.

They have been working together as a team, sharing ideas, planning how to spread the message, and thinking about how to encourage others to get involved. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and their commitment to the cause is genuinely impressive.

This project is about more than fundraising. It’s about understanding responsibility, building empathy for the natural world, and realising that even young people can play a powerful role in shaping a better future.
