Let’s make ripples and turn them into waves of change together

How it works

Agents of Change is a grassroots initiative designed to empower children to become active creators of positive change — in themselves, in their communities, and in the wider world. It gives children the freedom, tools, and encouragement to act on the things they care about most, helping them grow in confidence and discover just how powerful their voices can be. For parents, carers and teachers, it’s about supporting children not just to do, but to think deeper, go further, and dream bigger.

40 ideas… just the beginning

Every child receives an Agents of Change poster with 40 inspiring ideas — but these are not tick-box tasks. They are starting points, designed to spark curiosity and imagination.

The real magic happens when children take an idea and turn it into something more: something inventive, meaningful, and personal. We encourage adults to gently ask “How could this go further?” and help children turn small sparks into powerful projects.

Choice, curiosity and ownership

Each child chooses projects that reflect their own passions and beliefs. They can work independently or alongside friends, family, or teachers — with as much or as little support as they need. The heart of every project is the child’s own curiosity.

For example, if a child chooses “Go for a walk somewhere you love,” we encourage them to ask: Why do I love it? What makes it special? How could I protect it or share it with others? This is where imagination takes flight — and that’s exactly what we hope for.

From everyday actions to real change

Agents of Change projects should go beyond a child’s normal day-to-day life. Stamps are earned for actions that stretch them — things they wouldn’t usually do, things that make them think, create, question, and act.

The aim is to help children see that their ideas can ripple outward, growing into waves of change that inspire others.

Celebrating effort and impact

Every child has their own Agents of Change passport, kept safely at school. Each completed project earns them a stamp and a sticker, celebrating their effort and commitment.

After completing seven projects, children choose from seven collectible pin badges or certificates, proudly awarded in our end-of-half-term celebration assembly. These moments recognise not just what children have done — but who they are becoming.

Plus, look out for the exclusive and themed projects and badges too!

Our aim is simple but powerful: to nurture children who are curious, creative, and courageous — children who know that even the smallest idea can spark meaningful change. With encouragement from the adults around them, we know their actions will ripple far and wide.

40 starting points

  • By GIVING something of ourselves to somebody else, we make a DIFFERENCE to each of us. This cculd include food, books, money or toys.

  • Politicians have an important platform and are here to HELP us. What do you want to CHANGE? Tell them!

  • How could YOU make a difference to somebody’s day? Sometimes just giving our time can make someone feel special.

  • A tiny message of HOPE or KINDNESS on a walk can mean more to a stranger than we’ll ever know. A found pebble can be a smile on a child’s face, a message that gave someone’s day meaning, or a feeling of friendship and support for someone feeling lonely. From small pebbles huge ripples grow.

  • Journalism can create UNDERSTANDING, EMPATHY, and CHANGE. Remember, it is important to be TRUE and HONEST.

  • How about a bake sale or sponsored event? What do you most LOVE to do? This can be FUN. Any amount can make a difference.

  • Think of a cause you are passionate about and ASK QUESTIONS. Think about who to send your survey to. Finding out how other people feel can be an important FIRST STEP in making a CHANGE.

  • Storytelling is a powerful way to put ideas into the world. Be CREATIVE and EXPRESS yourself.

  • Nelson Mandela said that ‘Education is the most POWERFUL tool to change the world’. If you care about something, share your knowledge.

  • The squeaky wheel gets the oil, so MAKE SOME NOISE. This could be not one letter but hundreds, not one poster but dozens, a LOUD speech or performance. Sometimes we have to push harder to be heard louder.

  • What is IMPORTANT to you? Brainstorm ideas! You could EXPLORE how this campaign could be promoted, and how far it could reach.

  • Use ART to help make others as PASSIONATE about a cause as you. What would make you STOP and LOOK? Put it on your poster!

  • Be your own INVENTOR, and remember - the best way to have an IDEA is to have LOTS of ideas.

  • ANYONE can be an EXPERT with RESEARCH. Answers to questions are all around us, we just need to look for them.

  • Be a JOURNALIST. Invite someone to share their KNOWLEDGE and EXPERIENCE with you. What questions will you ask? Will you film the interview or write it down? Journalists all work differently!

  • With CURIOSITY comes KNOWLEDGE. ‘Millions saw the apple fall, but Newton asked WHY’. If we care enough to ASK questions, we can make a difference somewhere in our world.

  • Look at the RIGHTS and RESPONSIBILITIES of citizens, and be creative with the format. This can be on film, a computer document, on paper, or presented as a speech!

  • To be able to give to others we need to LOOK AFTER ourselves. Create a plan to stay healthy. Make sure things that you enjoy take up space in your plan… we are all DIFFERENT!

  • Many companies have the resources to support a cause or help enforce change. Can you think of a company you feel should CHANGE something? Can you think of a company that could HELP you? Let them know!

  • We can learn more from people we disagree with than from those we agree with. Through debate we can become EXPLORERS of issues and ideas.

  • Music that you love can be a powerful THERAPY, and communicate directly with our emotions. Search for pieces of music that make you feel things. It can both PUMP us up or CALM us down, or simply make us want to DANCE.

  • Some of the BEST things happened because of ACTIVISM, like weekends, free healthcare, and equal pay. RESEARCH someone from the past who has made life better for us today.

  • This could be for one person or a hundred. Really think about what YOU can do for someone else. Consider your STRENGTHS, consider their NEEDS, and be IMAGINATIVE.

  • Events can CELEBRATE, EDUCATE, and INSPIRE. When people get together, a single experience or idea can be shared, and feelings can spread.

  • This is called COLLECTIVISM. Form a group with friends or family to work together to help a cause, promote a message, or solve a problem. TEAM work is VITAL when making a DIFFERENCE.

  • There are so many different WAYS to connect with other people, and so many different PEOPLE to connect with. The common factor is the value of human connection. Who is important to YOU to connect with? Who values their connection WITH you? Notice and nurture these connections.

  • Where there are public events there are PEOPLE. And where there are people, there’s the opportunity to generate SUPPORT. People are GOOD. REACH out to them.

  • You can find poetry in your everyday LIFE, your MEMORY, in the news, or just what’s in your heart. TRUST in your own imagination and it will look after you for the rest of your life.

  • Peers can be the first and best people to support us when we have an IDEA. Share your PASSION with your FRIENDS.

  • Through feedback we GROW and IMPROVE. An idea can be a seed, our actions the water, and feedback the sun that helps direct us.

  • What would you like to CHANGE or IMPROVE in your local community? You could write to your school or a local councillor. Change can be implemented at a LOCAL level if people GET BEHIND a CAUSE.

  • Reading can take you to new places, introduce you to new friends, and teach you things. Find a GREAT book, OPEN your mind, and be INSPIRED.

  • Songs have been an important method of COMMUNICATION across human history, and can be a FUN and often profound way of getting your MESSAGE out there. If you don’t enjoy performing, you can always ask a friend to help.

  • Sometimes being still is the best thing you can do for yourself. It does not mean don’t move, it means move in PEACE. Build into your routine taking the TIME you need to be kind to yourself, for it is only if we are kind to ourselves that we have the STRENGTH to be kind to others.

  • Showing that we are GRATEFUL means more to people than we often realise. From the people in our home and our friends, to the grownup helpers in shops, hospitals, and public transport. From routinely saying ‘THANK YOU’ to writing letters and making gifts. Create and put into practice a plan to show gratitude to those around you. WHO might this be? How OFTEN will you do it?

  • Build a POSITIVE and HOPEFUL routine. Every new week is a new adventure!

  • Charitable organisations often rely on the GENEROUS time and efforts of volunteers to help them keep going. How much TIME people can offer and what SKILLS they provide vary greatly, but each volunteer is as VITAL as the next. What could you do? What organisation is important to you?

  • Put it on your FAVOURITE plate and ENJOY.

  • Take time on your walk to really take in your surroundings. What do you LOVE about this place? How does it make you FEEL? What sites and sounds stand out the most? How does it smell? Special places are so important. Notice EVERYTHING.

  • You are AMAZING. Make a list, draw a picture, or write a story about all the things you can CELEBRATE about yourself. Be your own cheerleader and your own best friend.
