Year 3 Create a School Garden Full of Joy, Colour and Kindness!

Something truly special has been growing at St Lawrence School… and it’s not just plants! Their Year 3 pupils have taken on an inspiring Agents of Change project: designing and creating a brand-new school garden area with one powerful goal in mind — to uplift and brighten the days of pupils and staff across the school.

From the very beginning, Year 3 approached the project with creativity, care and teamwork. They thought carefully about what kind of space would make people feel happy, calm and welcome. Would it be colourful? Peaceful? Full of nature? A place to sit, reflect, and enjoy the outdoors?

Working together, the children shared ideas, listened to each other, and built a shared vision of a garden that would make a real difference to school life. They wanted it to be more than just a space — they wanted it to be a feeling. A place where anyone walking past could pause, smile, and feel a little lighter.

Once their ideas were in place, the real transformation began. The children got hands-on, helping to shape and develop the area into something truly beautiful. They thought about how to bring nature into the space, how to make it inviting, and how to create something that everyone in the school community could enjoy.

What makes this project so powerful is its purpose. Year 3 didn’t just want to build a garden — they wanted to lift people’s moods, to create a space that could support wellbeing, and to remind everyone that small, thoughtful changes can have a big emotional impact.

Now, the garden stands as a symbol of kindness, teamwork and positivity. It reflects everything Agents of Change stands for: noticing a need, imagining a better way, and working together to make it happen.

Already, it’s becoming a place where pupils can take a break, where staff can pause for a moment of calm, and where nature quietly does its work of bringing peace and happiness.

We are incredibly proud of Year 3 for their vision, effort and care. They have shown that you don’t need to change the whole world to make a difference — sometimes, changing one small corner of it is enough to brighten so many lives.

And the best part? This garden will keep growing — just like their ideas, their confidence, and their impact as young Agents of Change.
