Finding Their Brave: St Lawrence Speech Competition Finale
St Lawrence School recently hosted an event that truly captured the spirit of Agents of Change, as children across KS2 took on the challenge of our school Speech Competition, linked to the “Speak at a Public Event” stamp.
In the weeks leading up to the finale, pupils worked incredibly hard. They chose topics that mattered to them, planned their ideas carefully, and crafted speeches designed to inform, inspire and make people think. It was brilliant to see the range of subjects children felt passionate about, and the confidence they developed as their speeches began to take shape.
The grand finale was an unforgettable moment. KS2 finalists stood up in front of a large audience and a panel of judges and delivered their speeches with real courage and determination. For many, it was a huge step outside of their comfort zone, but they showed exactly what it means to “find your brave” and use your voice.
The atmosphere in the room was full of excitement, pride and support. Every child who performed spoke clearly and confidently, showing not only strong public speaking skills, but also the ability to communicate something meaningful. Their topics were unique, powerful and full of personality, and they truly did St Lawrence proud.
The judging panel certainly had a difficult job. The standard was incredibly high, and every finalist brought something special to the stage. Choosing winners was no easy task.
A huge congratulations goes to this year’s winner, as well as our second and third place speakers. Your speeches were outstanding, and your courage to stand up and be heard was inspiring.
Most importantly, a massive well done to every finalist and every pupil who took part in the competition. This event was a reminder that children have important things to say, and when they are given the opportunity to speak, they can make a real impact.
This is what Agents of Change is all about: helping children find their voice, speak with confidence, and realise that their words have power.
