Year 4 Hit the High Notes for Charity!

At St Lawrence School, something truly magical has been happening—and it’s not just because it’s Christmas time… Our incredible Year 4 pupils have been busy transforming classic festive songs into powerful, meaningful performances—all in support of two very important charities: Cancer Research and Essex Wildlife Trust. And trust us… you are going to want to watch these videos!

This wasn’t just a singing project. Oh no—this was so much more. Our two Year 4 classes took on the challenge of rewriting the lyrics to well-known Christmas classics, turning them into songs that raise awareness and inspire action. But before a single lyric was changed, the children became researchers. They explored key facts about their chosen charities, why these causes matter and how people can help and make a difference They were full of thoughtful ideas and quickly became passionate about sharing these messages with others.

Rewriting a song isn’t as easy as it sounds! The children had to carefully match syllables to the original tunes, keep the rhythm and flow just right and choose words that were meaningful and singable. There were moments of challenge, lots of laughter, and plenty of teamwork—but they absolutely rose to it. The result? Clever, catchy, and powerful lyrics that stayed true to the originals while delivering an important message.

Once the lyrics were perfected, it was time to bring the songs to life. The children worked alongside Mrs Clark to create their very own music videos—and this is where things really came alive. They practised and performed their songs with energy and confidence, worked as true teams, supporting and encouraging each other and brought creativity, expression, and personality into every scene

The finished videos are nothing short of incredible. The effort, teamwork, and joy shine through in every second. What makes this project so special is the collaboration behind it. Both classes worked brilliantly as teams —sharing ideas, solving problems, and lifting each other up. They showed resilience, creativity, and a real sense of purpose throughout.

They weren’t just performing… They were raising awareness, spreading important messages, and using their voices to make a difference. You Have to See It to Believe It! We are so proud of our Year 4 pupils. Their dedication, creativity, and passion have resulted in something truly memorable.

These aren’t just songs. They are messages of hope, care, and action—wrapped up in festive cheer. So sit back, press play, and enjoy… because these performances are guaranteed to make you smile, think, and feel inspired:
