Year 3 Water Heroes Are Making Waves!
It all started with a simple idea… a water audit. Year 3 pupils at St Lawrence School began by becoming water detectives, working alongside Anglian Water to explore how water is used around our school. They checked toilets for leaks, tested taps, monitored flushes, and even read the water meter daily to track patterns in usage. And what they discovered was powerful. They found hidden “silent leaks,” helped reduce wasted water, and even saved the school money—all while learning just how important water conservation really is. But that’s only the beginning of the story…
What truly makes these pupils incredible is what they chose to do next.
They didn’t just want to stop at improving their own school. They wanted to inspire others. Weeks of Effort, Care and Creativity. The children decided to create leaflets to send to other schools—and they threw themselves into the task with energy, pride, and determination. This wasn’t a quick activity. They spent weeks researching water conservation, thinking carefully about what other schools would need to know to carry out their own audits. Then came the creation process… More weeks of careful writing, planning layouts, choosing the right words, and making sure their message was clear and engaging. Every detail mattered:
Neat, beautifully presented handwriting
Thoughtful layouts to guide the reader
Eye-catching titles and key facts
Colourful illustrations and decorations
And the final result? They look AWESOME. Each leaflet is unique, full of personality, and bursting with purpose. You can see just how much effort, pride, and care has gone into every single one. These aren’t just leaflets—they are a call to action, a message that matters
Our pupils are now sending them out to schools across the Anglian Water region, along with letters encouraging others to take on their own water audits. They want other children to:
Discover how water is used in their schools
Take action to reduce waste
Save money and protect our environment
Feel empowered to make real change
What makes this so special is that it’s entirely pupil-led. These Year 3 children have taken their learning and turned it into something bigger. They’ve shown initiative, creativity, and a genuine desire to help others. They are not waiting for change. They are creating it. Ready to Shout Out Loud! These Year 3 pupils are proud. They are passionate. And they are ready to be heard. Their message is simple: You can make a difference. Start with water. Start today. And if their incredible leaflets are anything to go by…
there’s no doubt they’re going to inspire many more schools to do exactly that.
