Mud, Magic & Wildflowers: The Skinny Jean Gardener School Tour

The Agents of Change team were absolutely thrilled to welcome the Skinny Jean Gardener to St Lawrence Primary School as part of his incredible 2025 school tour — and what a visit it was! Across just one action-packed week, he inspired over 10,000 children in 15 schools to get gardening, get growing, and get their hands properly muddy… all in the lead up to National Children’s Gardening Week. Even more amazingly, the tour saw children sow the equivalent of two football fields of wildflowers!

And at St Lawrence, the excitement was impossible to miss. There was a real buzz around the school as children dug in, planted, explored and learned just how powerful gardening can be. The laughter, the curiosity, the muddy hands and huge smiles said it all — this wasn’t just a lesson, it was an experience.

What made the day even more special was seeing how gardening brought everyone together. Children were full of questions, bursting with ideas, and genuinely excited about growing something themselves. Staff and teachers felt it too — that wonderful sense that gardening isn’t just a “nice extra”, but something that can become a meaningful part of school life.

This visit was a perfect example of what Agents of Change is all about: helping children connect with the world around them, care for the planet, and realise that small actions — like planting a seed — can create lasting change.

As we head into half term, we love the message the Skinny Jean Gardener has shared: let’s not let the momentum stop here. Whether it’s planting seeds at home, growing herbs on a windowsill, watering a flower bed, or simply spending time outdoors noticing nature… every little step matters.

Let’s make gardening more than just a week. Let’s make it a way of life.

A huge thank you to the Skinny Jean Gardener for bringing such energy, inspiration and joy to St Lawrence — and for helping plant not only wildflowers, but confidence, curiosity and hope in the next generation of changemakers.
