Keeping Our Community Warm

As the cost of energy continues to rise, many families are thinking carefully about how they will manage heating their homes this winter. For some in our community, this is a very real and worrying challenge. With this in mind, we were incredibly grateful to receive a generous donation of hundreds of brand new winter coats, blankets, hot water bottles, cardigans and jumpers — all ready to help keep people warm during the colder months.

Wanting to make sure these items reached as many people as possible, we set up our “Keeping Our Community Warm” stalls on the playground after school. Under the gazebo, families and community members were invited to take items to share with relatives, friends, neighbours or local groups who might need a little extra warmth this winter.

The children played a special role in the project too. They created notes and drawings to send out with the donations — small messages of kindness and encouragement to brighten someone’s day alongside the practical support.

The response from our school community was truly heartwarming. Over the three days, so many people came along to collect items and share stories about where they would be going. We heard some amazing examples of kindness in action: children delivering warm clothes to elderly neighbours, families planning to pass items on to community groups, and others even taking them into town to help people in need.

This simple act of sharing showed the true power of community spirit. At a time when many are facing a difficult winter, it was wonderful to see everyone coming together to look out for one another.

Thank you to everyone who donated, helped organise the stalls, and came along to share the warmth. Together, we are making sure that our community feels supported, cared for and — most importantly — warm this winter.
