Growing Big Ideas: Year 3’s Water-Wise Agents of Change Garden

Another year has brought another exciting gardening competition with the Skinny Jean Gardener, and once again St Lawrence pupils have risen to the challenge in true Agents of Change style.

Year 3 have worked incredibly hard to design a garden that represents what matters to them, their school, and their local community. They chose to celebrate St Lawrence and Rowhedge, thinking carefully about how their garden could tell a story and make people feel proud of the place they live.

This year’s theme was water conservation, and the children embraced it with creativity and purpose. They wanted their garden to do more than just look beautiful. They wanted it to send a message. Their brilliant idea was to showcase the River Colne, highlighting the importance of local waterways and reminding everyone how vital it is to protect and respect our natural environment. Their rainbow water arch brought their design to life and symbolised how precious water is for all living things.

What makes this project even more inspiring is the commitment behind it. Year 3 have spent the whole year growing many of the plants featured in the garden, showing patience, responsibility and real teamwork. They also chose drought-resistant plants to reflect the conservation theme, proving that even small choices in gardening can support a healthier planet.

This is exactly what Agents of Change is all about. It is about children thinking bigger than themselves, using their ideas to raise awareness, and taking action to protect the future. Through this project, Year 3 have shown that they understand the impact of sustainability and that they want to be part of the solution.

They haven’t just created a garden. They have created a message of hope, care and responsibility, and they have shown that young people can lead the way in making positive change.

We are incredibly proud of their creativity, effort and determination. Voting will be opening soon, so keep your eyes peeled. Watch this space and get ready to support Year 3’s amazing Agents of Change garden.
