A Christmas Classic with a Purpose
This year, the Year 4 class at St Lawrence did something truly special — they took a beloved Christmas classic and rewrote the lyrics to create a charity single all about saving water. What started as a fun classroom activity quickly turned into a meaningful project that brought together creativity, learning and community spirit. Each year, festive singing plays a big part in the countdown to the holidays, but Year 4 went one step further. Instead of simply performing a traditional Christmas song, they: Rewrote the lyrics to reflect the importance of conserving water, Wove in key environmental messages that are both age-appropriate and impactful, Worked collaboratively to ensure everyone contributed to the final piece. By keeping the tune familiar but changing the words to focus on why saving water matters, the children made the message both memorable and fun.
Once the lyrics were perfected, the class didn’t stop there. With the help of their teachers and support staff, Year 4 recorded their charity single, practised vocals and performance skills for their assembly debut and fully supported each other throughout the creative process
The result is a lively and heart-warming rendition that shows just how much young voices can contribute to important conversations — especially about protecting our planet’s resources. Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or community supporter, this project is a testament to what young learners can do when given the opportunity to create with purpose. Sharing the video — embedded above — helps broaden the reach of their message and honours their hard work.
Well done, Year 4 — and thank you for reminding us all that caring for the planet can be joyful, musical and meaningful!
