When big questions come from small people!
If you’ve ever wondered what happens when you give children the tools to change the world, the answer is: something amazing! St Lawrence pupils were tasked to write thought-provoking questions about a cause they felt passionately about — and what began as a simple activity quickly grew into an explosion of ideas, energy, and imagination. From environmental sustainability, deforestation, and littering to homelessness and community wellbeing, the pupils threw themselves into the issues that matter to them most. Their questions were bold, compassionate, creative, and full of heart — the kind of questions that don’t just make you think, but make you want to do something.
As they worked, it became clear that the project was doing something powerful: it was helping pupils realise that their voices matter. Classrooms buzzed with excitement as children encouraged, challenged, and inspired one another. They weren’t just completing a task — they were stepping into the role of young citizens who care deeply about the world around them and aren’t afraid to ask, “How can we make this better?” The confidence, empathy, and determination they showed have been truly inspiring, and this project marks only the beginning of what they are capable of achieving.
But perhaps the most exciting part is what happened next. After writing their questions, the pupils decided to send their letters out into the world — and incredibly, the world wrote back. They have received responses from King Charles, Sir David Attenborough, local councillors, government ministers for housing and the environment, the Prime Minister, and even The Environment Agency… with more replies arriving all the time. Their voices are travelling far beyond the classroom, reaching people in positions of real influence. Our young Agents of Change set out to make themselves heard — and they’ve done exactly that.
