Inspiring Change All the Way to London

The children of St Lawrence Primary School recently teamed up with Volunteer Matters for an incredible project that showed just how powerful young voices can be. Their mission? To inspire the staff at the London offices of The Discovery Channel to make sustainable pledges for the planet.

The children threw themselves into the challenge, brainstorming and creating lists of pledges across three levels of commitment — starting with simple, easy actions and building up to bigger, bolder changes that staff could take on. But they didn’t want their pledges to sit quietly on a piece of paper or a form to be ignored. They wanted their message to spark action and be impossible to overlook.

So, with the support of Mrs Clark, they did what they do best: they used their voices for impact. The children filmed a lively, inspiring pledge video, full of energy and conviction, which would play on loop in the Discovery Channel offices all day long — reminding staff to step up and make a difference every single hour.

When pledge day arrived, the children were buzzing with excitement. Their big question, “How many pledges will you make?”, hung in the air — and the answers started rolling in. To their delight, they even received videos back from staff, showing that their work had inspired real action.

This project proved once again that Agents of Change empowers children to turn ideas into impact, showing that no matter your age, your voice can ripple out and inspire change far beyond your classroom walls.

Amazing work, St Lawrence — you’re helping the world think bigger, act bolder, and pledge for a brighter future!
