From Classroom to Cabinet: Pupils Speak Up on Littering

Imagine a classroom buzzing with energy, ideas flying everywhere, and pencils scratching away as young voices prepare to speak up for the planet. That’s exactly what’s been happening with our incredible Year 6 pupils at St Lawrence C of E Primary School!

This week, these fearless young changemakers have been busy writing letters to Prime Minister Keir Starmer, tackling a problem they care deeply about: littering and keeping our world clean. But these aren’t just ordinary letters — they’re bold, thought-provoking, and full of questions designed to make people stop and think. “Why does littering still happen in our streets?” “How can we make recycling easier for everyone?” “What can leaders do to protect nature for future generations?” — just a few of the powerful questions they’ve posed.

What’s truly inspiring is how much passion, curiosity, and courage these pupils have shown. They’ve realised that even at just 10 or 11 years old, they have the power to influence change. By reaching out directly to politicians, they’re showing that young voices do matter, that ideas don’t have an age limit, and that everyone can play a role in creating a cleaner, fairer world.

We can’t wait to see the conversations their letters spark and the ripple effect of their determination. One thing’s for sure: when it comes to making a difference, our Year 6 pupils are leading the way — and proving that small voices can make a huge impact!
